‘OUTSIDE-IN(SIDE)’ is a series of sculptures recently exhibited at Sculpture Inside (part of Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi) and operate similarly to their larger brethren, albeit at a more intimate scale. Formally they are identical, however, ‘OUTSIDE-IN(SIDE)’ enabled us to explore issues of scale and mobility in relation to space and sculpture.

A spray painted and lacquered polycarbonate exterior houses a mirrored acrylic interior that produces a succession of kaleidoscopic viewing corridors that define specific lines of vision. The scale of the pieces is such that a user can pick up and move the object around to continually shift and morph the surrounding environment. This interactivity and mobility questions sculptures static relationship to its environment as the viewer must navigate between what they are seeing, and where they are looking. ‘OUTSIDE-IN[SIDE]’ offers a dynamic new insight into sculpture, environment and space.
